About the shelter

Barbos shelter is a private animal shelter in the Republic of Moldova, founded by Irina Iacovenco and sustained through the generosity of caring individuals. The shelter’s mission is truly special—Irina rescues puppies and kittens from across Moldova, saving them from the harsh realities of life on the streets and working tirelessly to find them loving forever homes. For those puppies who are not fortunate enough to find a family right away, Barbos offers a safe and temporary refuge where they can continue to wait for their chance at a better life. Currently, the shelter cares for around 90 dogs while actively rescuing and rehoming new puppies and kittens. This ongoing effort requires significant resources, including vaccines, medications, food, and paid temporary care, as keeping fragile kids within the shelter environment can be risky for their health.

Barbos is a place of hope, where every effort is made to give these animals the second chance they deserve.
