Where the information comes from

Everything on this site is gathered from public sources: a shelter's own website, its social media accounts, public registers and similar places. We check what we publish as carefully as a small volunteer team can, but we cannot promise that it is complete, accurate or current. Shelters move, phone numbers change, accounts close, and we do not always hear about it.

Before you send money

This is the part to read twice. Bank accounts and payment pages shown on a shelter's page were published by that shelter, and we copy them as we find them. Confirm them with the shelter itself — through its own website or social media — before you transfer anything. Once money leaves your account it is beyond our reach: we never receive it, never hold it, and cannot trace, recall or refund it.

We will never ask you to send money to HelpShelter on a shelter's behalf, and we will never contact you to say a shelter's details have changed and that you should pay somewhere else. If you receive such a message, it did not come from us.

Being listed here is not an endorsement

We add shelters because they appear to exist and to do the work, not because we have inspected them. We do not audit anyone's accounts, visit their premises, or verify how the animals are kept. A page here says that a shelter is active and reachable — nothing more. If you plan to give substantial support, look into the shelter yourself first.

Not professional advice

Nothing on this site is veterinary, legal, financial or tax advice. If you need such advice, ask someone qualified to give it.

If something here is wrong

Tell us at support@help-shelter.com and we will fix it or take the page down. Corrections from shelters themselves are especially welcome, and we act on them within a few days.

We offer this site as it stands, and to the extent the law allows we are not liable for loss arising from the information on it or from your use of it. The full terms are on our Terms of Use page, and nothing here takes away rights you have by law that cannot be given up.
