About the shelter

Welcome to Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue. We rescue, rehome, and neuter dogs from our village and those around us, with many finding forever homes in the U.K. This is all accomplished through the gift of donations, and on the ground support here in Bulgaria, and as well as remotely by our volunteers. After working for many years in the civil service, Owners Justine and Pete retired to Northern Bulgaria – a great country with very friendly people. Alongside the help of all our wonderful volunteers, we work together to alleviate as much of the suffering of animals as we can in our area. Having lived in Bulgaria for over 7 years, we have tried to support and help as many distressed animals as possible. Sadly, this comes at a cost and we need help and support from others to find homes, foster, and finance this. After 5 years of hard work, we achieved official charity status in 2020.

Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue is a registered charity and non-profit organisation. We do not make a single penny from the adoption fees charged. We also do not receive any government funding or help, so we rely on donations for costs and transport. We are dedicated to the care, rehabilitation and adoption of domestic animals. Our main goals and your donations contribute towards: ∙ Removing animals from homeless situations ∙ Providing medical care and rehabilitation as needed ∙ Placing animals in secure adoptive homes ∙ Providing vaccine and spay/neuter services ∙ Sustaining a pet food bank for those in need ∙ Providing resources for stary and feral animals
