About the shelter

NIKA Charitable Foundation for Stray Animals started its work in 2011 with targeted assistance to an abandoned shelter in Zelenograd, but over the 10 years of its work it has grown into an organization with sustainable and systematic activities. The Foundation develops and implements effective and humane practices that help reduce the number of homeless animals on the streets and change society's attitude towards homeless animals in general.

The foundation has two of its own shelters with about 1,000 animals.

1. Shelter NIKA The shelter appeared almost simultaneously with the creation of the Foundation in 2011, at first it was designed for only 50 animals, but in just two years the shelter accepted abandoned animals from another Zelenograd shelter “Santa” and the number of tails increased significantly. In the shelter “Nika” works a whole team of people who have been helping homeless animals for many years. All the Foundation's charges become temporary residents of the shelter, where they are taken care of while searching for an owner.

 2. The “Wet Nose” Center is the second shelter of the NIKA Foundation. Since 2018, it has been functioning as a center for mass sterilization of animals: a veterinary clinic operates on the basis of the shelter, where surgeries for preferential sterilization are performed and the OSVV program is implemented. Now it is home to about 500 animals.
“Wet Nose” is a unique and the very first in Russia multifunctional center for helping animals in difficult situations, designed to accommodate 500 pony-tailed friends at a time. A separate group of animals that have suffered from human cruelty will make up a separate group here. In addition to treatment, their social adaptation will take place here.

It is no secret that many citizens perceive shelters negatively - as a place where animals suffer without proper care. We strive to change this perception by making human-animal communication an irreplaceable part of the life of a city dweller.

Now there are 5 blocks for 500 dogs, a veterinary clinic with in-patient and operating room, a warehouse, a dormitory for workers, a pet hotel and a separate cat house with about 50 cats. But we are still under construction, so people and companies who are willing to contribute to the Wet Nose are always welcome. Just contact us by e-mail: info@fond-nika.ru
