About the shelter

PUBLIC ORGANIZATION OF ASSISTANCE TO HOMELESS ANIMALS “UMKA”
Recently there has been a lot of talk about the problem of stray animals, cruelty and injustice towards them. Unfortunately, much is said, but little is done to solve this problem. Every year with the end of the dacha season the number of stray guards only increases. We live in the countryside and are familiar with this problem firsthand, as our dacha is located in close proximity to our homes, dogs are thrown to stores, farms, bus stops, simply thrown out of cars. We can't bear to see this lawlessness anymore! We have long thought about the need for a shelter for unhappy dogs, and now the cup of patience is overflowing. Knocked on different doors, went to the instances..... Nobody wants anything. What dogs? We don't have enough money for people! And with dogs the conversation is short - shooting. It is only said that they put them to sleep. Do you know what “putting them down” is? Any veterinarian will tell you that it's not compatible with further awakening.

With the arrival of the new head of the Nastasyinsky territorial department of Dmitrovsky district, Alexander Anatolievich Ivanchenko, our plan to open a shelter began to be realized. With his support and direct participation a small group of enthusiasts opened a shelter in the building of an abandoned farm. We named it “UMKA” in honor of one of our pets with a tragic fate. His small, defenseless lump was abandoned near the store in the village Gorshkovo in the bitter cold. We nursed him for a long time after inflammation of lungs, but alas...

Public organization of assistance to pets “Umka” has been working since February 2012, during this time we have done a tremendous amount of work: we built aviaries, cleared a large area for walking. We have been greatly helped by the students of DGPC, who were among the first to respond to our call for help. Boys and girls worked all day long, infecting everyone with their enthusiasm! Initially we brought dogs from the village of Gorshkovo and from neighboring villages. To date, many dogs from Dmitrov, Yakhroma, N-Sinkovo. The population of our pets began to grow rapidly. Thank God, we found kind people who began to help the shelter to the best of their abilities.
