About the shelter

Dear friend, We at «Asociatia Help of Afumati Dogs» in Romania with the German administrative arm «Help for Romanian Animals e.V.» are delighted that you are as committed to animal welfare as we are. Romania is the country with a large population of stray dogs and cats. According to us, the local organisations are barely able to help these animals who are left to fend for themselves. The misery is great and it would be even worse without the help of foreign organisations.

Our shelter in Afumati, Ilfov district, is currently (summer 2022) home to 96 dogs and 37 cats that we have rescued from the streets, from killings or from a bad fate. Our work, which we sometimes do day and night alongside work, family and other private commitments, is purely voluntary - our passion is protecting and rescuing animals. Our heart beats for those who have no voice and no one to protect them: the street dogs and cats of Romania.

We are recognised as a non-profit organisation in both Romania and Germany, registered for tax purposes in Romania and Germany and, of course, registered with the courts in both countries. This gives you the guarantee that we are fully controlled by the authorities. We also work with the Animal Protection Police and the DSV in Romania in very serious cases.

Our animals at the Afumati shelter receive careful veterinary care, are all vaccinated, chipped and tested for diseases - we would be delighted if you could support our voluntary work, which is not financially supported by any authority in Germany or Romania. With a donation, we can continue to rescue animals and provide them with the best possible care in our shelter, from good food to care and medical treatment.

All the animals featured on our website are looking for a loving home. By adopting a cat or dog, you are also supporting our work - and helping to change the world for an animal who has never had a chance.

For every donation, for every adoption, I thank you personally as President from the bottom of my heart! Your Susanne Titzmann, President Asociatia Help of Afumati Dogs.
