Jimlin Animal Shelter / Útulek Jimlín

About the shelter

Útulek Jimlín is a private animal shelter located in the Ústí nad Labem region of the Czech Republic, near the town of Louny. Established in 2002, the shelter initially focused on helping cats, but soon expanded its work to include dogs and other animals. Today, it operates as a multi-species rescue facility, providing care for abandoned, stray, and neglected animals from across the region.
The shelter is run by David Kubalík and has developed over the years into a structured and active rescue operation. Animals are accepted both from private individuals and through cooperation with municipalities and public authorities, including cases where animals must be removed from unsafe environments or after the death of an owner. This cooperation allows the shelter to respond to a wide range of situations, from everyday abandonment to more complex intervention cases.
At any given time, the shelter houses dozens of animals, with a steady flow of new arrivals each year. Dogs and cats make up the majority of residents, although the shelter also accepts other animals when needed. Each animal receives basic care, including feeding, shelter, and veterinary attention, and is prepared for adoption into a new home.
Adoption is a central part of the shelter’s work, but it is approached with careful consideration. According to publicly available information, the shelter has introduced stricter adoption practices to ensure long-term responsibility. For example, in some cases, prospective adopters—particularly older individuals—may be asked to identify a designated person who would take over care of the animal if necessary. This reflects the shelter’s focus on long-term welfare rather than quick placements.
Útulek Jimlín operates as a private facility and does not rely solely on public funding. While it cooperates with municipalities through contractual agreements, its operation depends significantly on donations and public support. The shelter maintains a transparent bank account, allowing supporters to track financial contributions, and regularly organizes fundraising initiatives, including campaigns to improve infrastructure such as fencing and housing conditions for animals.
In addition to rescue and adoption, the shelter engages with the public through its website and social media, where it shares updates about animals in its care and ongoing needs. Its long-term presence, active cooperation with authorities, and transparent approach to funding make Útulek Jimlín a stable and visible part of the regional animal welfare landscape.
