ADA Foundation / Fundacja ADA

About the shelter

Fundacja ADA is a registered public benefit organization based in Przemyśl, southeastern Poland, near the Ukrainian border. Founded in 2008 but rooted in over three decades of grassroots animal rescue, the foundation grew out of the personal commitment of veterinarian Dr. Radosław Fedaczyński and his family, who began sheltering injured and abandoned animals at home long before the organization was formalized. Today, Fundacja ADA operates as a multi-species rescue and rehabilitation center that provides urgent medical care, long-term shelter, and behavioral recovery for domestic animals, wild fauna, livestock, and exotic species. The foundation’s mission is grounded in the belief that all life has equal value, and its team works to protect and restore life across species boundaries.

ADA's facilities include a modern veterinary clinic, a rehabilitation center for wild animals, a full adoption center for cats and dogs, and an innovative housing concept called Psia Wioska (“Dog Village”)—a network of furnished mini-homes where traumatized dogs are socialized in a safe, homelike setting. These colorful cottages are equipped with sofas, curtains, sound systems, and even household noises to help dogs adapt to everyday life before adoption. The foundation also developed Kocie Imperium (“Cat Empire”), an enriched environment for cats without cages. Animals in ADA’s care are never kept in isolated kennels but instead live in community-based housing tailored to their needs.

The foundation provides a wide range of services, including emergency rescue, advanced medical treatment, psychological recovery, species-specific rehabilitation, and responsible adoption. It is also one of Poland’s few centers equipped to handle the care and release of wild animals such as storks, foxes, deer, birds of prey, and even bears and lynxes. All activities are conducted by a multidisciplinary team of veterinarians, technicians, behaviorists, and volunteers.

ADA operates nationally and internationally. It receives animals from across Poland and was one of the first shelters to respond to the war in Ukraine, evacuating over 1,000 animals from conflict zones and refugee crossings.

The foundation is funded entirely through donations, 1.5% income tax designations (KRS 0000313847), and its own social enterprise, ADA Atelier, which sells charity merchandise. It does not rely on government funding. All financial and operational reports are publicly available, and the organization is known for its transparency, ethical standards, and consistent community engagement.
Fundacja ADA is widely recognized as one of Poland’s most innovative and inclusive animal welfare organizations. Its work has redefined what shelter care can look like and continues to inspire change, both locally and abroad.
