About the shelter

The Dog Angel Shelter Foundation (Fundacja Azylu pod Psim Aniołem) is a private, nonprofit animal welfare organization based in Warsaw-Falenica, Poland. The shelter’s roots go back over 30 years, when Agnieszka Brzezińska, its founder and still the driving force, began rescuing injured, abandoned, and mistreated dogs and cats from the streets, forests, and abusive homes.
In 2002, the growing need for organized help led to the official creation of the foundation. Since then, it has become one of Warsaw’s most recognized non-governmental shelters, providing safety, medical treatment, rehabilitation, and adoption opportunities for hundreds of animals each year.
The shelter operates on a private property in Falenica, transformed into a sanctuary for rescued dogs and cats. Animals receive full veterinary care: vaccinations, sterilization, parasite protection, and ongoing treatment. They are also walked regularly, properly fed, and supported in regaining trust in humans. Many dogs and cats begin learning socialization here for the first time, preparing them for adoption.
The foundation has developed into a strong adoption center. Between 2003 and 2007 alone, 713 dogs from the shelter found new homes. Adoption remains one of the core missions today, supported by dedicated staff and volunteers, as well as collaborations with trainers who prove that shelter animals can thrive as companions. Funding comes primarily from donations, sponsorships, and public generosity. The shelter does not provide municipal services and does not receive regular government financing. Instead, it relies on community support, volunteers, and taxpayers’ 1.5% allocations.
Agnieszka Brzezińska continues to manage the daily life of the shelter, supervising the care of animals, coordinating employees and volunteers, and personally ensuring the well-being of every dog and cat. Her lifelong commitment has made the Dog Angel Shelter a trusted place where abandoned animals get a genuine second chance at life.
