VšĮ "Katino svajonė" (translated as Cat’s Dream) is a non-governmental, nonprofit organization based in Kaunas, Lithuania. Founded with the mission to help homeless and injured cats, the shelter provides medical assistance, temporary housing, and works toward responsible adoption. The organization operates under the legal form of a viešoji įstaiga (public institution), which enables it to accept donations and participate in charitable programs. As of 2024, the shelter reported taking in 290 cats, successfully rehoming 263 of them. Around 66 cats began the year in the shelter, and at any given time, approximately 50–70 cats remain under its care. The shelter only places cats for adoption after they have received necessary medical care, vaccinations, and sterilization when age-appropriate. The shelter is run by a dedicated team of administrators, veterinary partners, and volunteers. Volunteers are actively involved in feeding, cleaning, socializing cats, transportation, and administrative help. The shelter also coordinates off-site support and home care for animals when internal space is limited. The administration regularly publishes transparent activity reports and uses their website and social media to update the public on current residents, adoption success stories, and funding needs. This openness has helped maintain strong community support. Beyond its internal operations, "Katino svajonė" participates in broader animal welfare efforts. The team supports sterilization campaigns, offers consultation on stray cat management, and collaborates with municipalities on ad hoc sterilization or rescue programs. They also advocate for responsible pet ownership, education, and ethical treatment of animals in the broader community. After 13 years of operating at Partizanų g. 15 in Kaunas, "Katino svajonė" is now facing forced relocation. The current premises must be vacated, despite years of effort invested in making the space functional and welcoming for cats. This unexpected development presents a major logistical and financial burden: the team must find a new property, secure funding for rent or purchase, and completely rebuild the shelter’s infrastructure from scratch. While volunteers dream of owning a dedicated building, current resources are insufficient for such an undertaking. The search for a suitable and affordable space is still ongoing, creating significant uncertainty and representing the shelter’s biggest challenge in 2025.
