About the shelter

Shelter "Soul of the Stray" is one of the largest private dog shelters in Russia, located in Kaluga. It operates under the Charitable Foundation for Helping Homeless Animals "Dusha Brodyagi", officially established on November 23, 2017. The shelter is directed by Elena Vasilyevna Shmeleva and is fully supported by donations from compassionate individuals and contributions from the team. Since July 6, 2015, the shelter has been providing humanitarian care, medical treatment, and rehabilitation for stray dogs, aiming to reduce the number of homeless animals on the streets in a humane and ethical way. Their mission also includes educating the public about responsible and compassionate treatment of animals. Currently, the shelter cares for over 1,600 dogs — including street rescues, former pets, animals captured under municipal contracts, and those taken from troubled shelters. Over the years, more than 2,000 dogs have found safety and shelter here, and over 500 of them have already been adopted into loving homes. And this is just the beginning — the team continues to grow its volunteer network and actively promotes adoption. Join their mission — together we can save more lives and make tails wag with happiness!
