About the shelter

Angel’s Garden Dog Shelter is a privately-run sanctuary for stray and abandoned dogs, located in Xanthi, Northern Greece. Founded in 2013 by a group of dedicated volunteers, led by Anna-Maria Psaroudaki, the shelter was created to provide a safe haven for abused, sick, and neglected dogs in a region struggling with a large stray population. With over 120 rescued dogs currently in its care, Angel’s Garden is more than just a shelter—it is a place of healing, rehabilitation, and second chances. Every dog taken in receives medical treatment, proper nutrition, and the love they need to recover from past hardships. The ultimate goal is to find them responsible, loving families where they can live the lives they deserve. Beyond rescue and adoption, Angel’s Garden actively works to reduce the stray population through a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program, ensuring humane and long-term solutions to the issue of animal overpopulation. Despite being constantly at full capacity, the shelter continues to take in animals in desperate need, believing that saving one dog won’t change the world, but for that one dog, the world will change forever. Entirely reliant on donations and volunteer support, Angel’s Garden is driven by the belief that every dog deserves a second chance at happiness. Their work is a testament to the power of compassion, offering hope to the most vulnerable animals and giving them the opportunity to experience love, care, and a better future.
