Syros Stray Animal Shelter / Καταφύγιο Αδέσποτων Ζώων Σύρου

About the shelter

Syros Stray Animal Shelter is a volunteer-run sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating stray animals on the island of Syros, Greece. Founded over a decade ago, the shelter provides a safe haven for abandoned and mistreated dogs, offering them medical care, nourishment, and the opportunity to find loving homes.
Operated by the nonprofit organization Filozoiki Omada Syrou, the shelter relies entirely on donations and the dedication of volunteers to cover food, medical treatments, and maintenance. With a mission to reduce the number of strays through rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption, the shelter also promotes responsible pet ownership and collaborates with local authorities to prevent animal cruelty.
Adoption is a core part of their work, and the shelter has successfully placed hundreds of dogs in loving homes both in Greece and internationally. For those unable to adopt, the shelter offers a sponsorship program, allowing supporters to contribute toward the care of a specific dog.
Despite financial and logistical challenges, Syros Stray Animal Shelter continues its lifesaving efforts with unwavering commitment. Every donation, volunteer, or share on social media helps provide a better future for these animals in need.
