About the shelter

Centaur – The First Animal-Assisted Therapy & Rescue Centre in Armenia
Centaur Nonprofit is Armenia’s first and only Animal-Assisted Therapy & Rescue Centre, where rescued animals are given a second chance—not only to heal but also to become therapists for humans.
At Centaur, stray and at-risk animals are rescued, rehabilitated, and trained to assist people with various conditions, such as cynophobia (fear of dogs), PTSD, and anxiety disorders. Many of these animals have suffered severe mistreatment, and the team at Centaur works patiently to teach them to trust humans again—a process that, for some, can take years.
Healing Through Animal Therapy
From 2008 to 2020, Centaur provided equine therapy (hippotherapy) for children and adults with cerebral palsy and other disabilities, helping them improve both physically and emotionally. In 2010, the organization introduced dog therapy sessions, becoming pioneers in this field in Armenia. Today, Centaur’s therapy dogs work with orphanages in Yerevan and beyond, offering children a unique form of emotional support and healing. Therapeutic dogs play a crucial role in helping children with autism, creating relationships where children naturally develop responsibility and empathy. At the same time, these animals help overcome deep-seated fears and provide emotional stability for those in need.
A Unique Mission
Unlike traditional shelters, Centaur is not just a rescue center but a place of transformation—where abused and abandoned animals not only find a home but also learn to heal others.
By supporting Centaur, you are helping both animals and humans—because every life matters. 🐾❤️
