About the shelter

Gavcheg – A Shelter Built on Love and Devotion.

Gavcheg is more than just a shelter; it is a place built on love, dedication, and loyalty. Its founder, Sergey Rusnak, has cared deeply for dogs since childhood, and no matter where he lived or worked, he was always surrounded by four-legged friends. Over time, the number of dogs grew, and realizing they needed a safe haven, he rented a cozy space on a factory’s premises. However, when the factory changed ownership, the dogs once again needed a new home. Together with like-minded individuals, he found a countryside house, and that is how Gavcheg was born—a refuge for hundreds of homeless dogs. Today, the shelter is home to more than 750 stray dogs, who have finally found a place where they are safe and cared for.

Here, animals receive not only food and shelter but also human warmth and compassion. At Gavcheg, there are no boundaries between people and dogs—everyone lives together as one big family, sharing both joys and hardships. The shelter survives solely on donations from kind-hearted individuals, without any government support.

"I will not abandon you, I am with you until the end." These words by Sergey Rusnak are not just a motto but the very essence of Gavcheg. Any help, no matter how small—can be a chance for a better life for these dogs. ❤️🐾
